Aurora underwent a major refit during the winter of 2019/2020. She is in fine shape and ready for her next owner to continue bringing home the silver.
Aurora was built as Blue Yankee in 2006. She has had only two owners. Under both, she has had a tremendous string of top finishes. Too many to mention, except to say that the boat is wonderful on all points of sail and in all kinds of conditions. Suitable for round the buoys racing, or offshore to Bermuda. Reichel/Pugh did an amazing job with this design to create a boat with no weak spots.
Because of the versatile design, she has not been and most likely will never be outmoded by any particular handicap rule. The boat has a very clean shape that is not as extreme as todays boats. She does not suffer from too much wetted surface and is easily driven sail area wise, as well as helm wise. She is super responsive a joy to drive.

Aurora is the perfect boat for someone wishing to get into larger boat racing without breaking the bank. Aurora will not disappoint any sailing/racing enthusiast. She is current enough in design and performance to be competitive, yet priced to allow easy entry into this level and size of boat.
Aurora was built as a grand prix racing machine. No effort was spared at making the boat as fast as possible. The design was aimed at being competitive at any point of sail and any wind speed. Both of the owners owned and raced the previous Blue Yankee which was also a R/P 66. This previous boat was the inspiration for this boat, in that it had no weak spots in its performance capabilities. When Aurora was built, the goal was to build a state of the art update of the previous boat. R/P achieved the design brief to perfection.
King Composites built the boat to withstand the rigors of ocean racing at the extremes. The quality of the build is evident to this day in the way the boat has held up to many years of racing, yet still looks fantastic. An added note, that for several years the boat was not sailed, but was well maintained in dry storage.
Down below is a light weight, yet bright interior. Plenty of adjustable pipe berths for offshore use. A very usable galley for cooking and a comfortable nav station. An enclosed head rounds out a very comfortable, but purpose built interior.
The equipment inventory will get added to this listing, but suffice it to say that she lacks nothing to be able to compete at the highest level of racing.
The boat has been captain maintained and has been racing during the 2020 season.
