"SORCHA" is a tri-deck motor yacht that is fully ABS-classed & MCA-compliant. She is constructed from resin-infused fiberglass composite with vinyl ester resin used in the hull and polyester resin used in the deck & house. The resin infusion process provides the optimum proportion of resin content to reinforcing material(fiberglass or core). Resin infusion (SCRIMP) has many advantages such as lighter and stronger parts than those built by "hand-layup" or multi-stage vacuum-bagged methods. Her bottom has a double core of 1" cross linked polyurethane foam with a layer of fiberglass between. The deck and house have a single layer of 1" cross linked polyethylene foam. She has solid glass in the way of stress points, such as windlass, anchor pockets, cleats, struts, bow thruster, rudders, through-hulls, etc. There is Kevlar in the bow from the stem aft approximately 15 feet on each side since this is considered a high impact area. There is also Kevlar used as reinforcement in other areas of stress, such as the windlass, anchor pockets, cleats, struts, bow thruster, rudders, etc. Exterior styling and interior arrangement by Setzer Design. The final product is a cutting-edge world• cruising vessel with the strength of a trawler and styling that will turn heads with her elegance.
"SORCHA" is powered by a pair of Caterpillar 3512B TA SC freshwater cooled marine diesels, each rated at 1575-hp at 1600 RPM. The reversing gears are by ZF with a ratio of 3.040. They are down angle 8° gearboxes rated for medium duty of 1621-hpat 1800 RPM.
"SORCHA" has a pair of Northern Lights 99-kW freshwater cooled marine diesel generator rated at 1800 RPM, three-phase, 60-cycle, 208-volt at 344 amps.
Each generator exhaust consists of a cast iron water jacketed manifold and turbo to a cast water injected exhaust elbow to a modular fiberglass water lift muffler to a fiberglass water separating muffler, all located inside each generator sound enclosure. The generator exhaust discharge is out the respective hull side all connected with blue silicone hose with fiberglass extensions. There is an exhaust temperature sensor in the outlet side of each water separating muffler.
