Very well cared for Pearson 303: Completely turn-key and ready to go cruising today.
Even before stepping aboard, it is clear from her shiny gelcoat and shipshape appearance that the current owner of 22 years has been a fastidious and conscientious steward of this wonderful family cruiser.
Designed by Bill Shaw of Pearson Yachts, in Rhode Island, more than 300 of these seemingly timeless designs were built.
Above the waterline, the Pearson 303's hull is solid laminate with a balsa core used in the bottom and the deck. The rudder is mounted to a substantial skeg, which helps the boat track well downwind.
With its broad beam, the Pearson 303 is quite stiff, and likes to be sailed on its feet, providing a sea kindly, and dry ride typical of a 'big boat' underway. Four adults can comfortably occupy the cockpit, while the position of the mainsheet track and primary winches mean one person can single-hand with ease. A single-spreader rig supports the keel stepped mast. Headroom throughout the cabin is more than 6 feet and the interior layout comfortably sleeps up to 6.
Overall, the Pearson 303 is an economical and versatile family cruiser from a builder with a reputation for solid and reliable boats.
"Widgeon" comes equipped with a full complement of cruising gear and includes the following features:
ACCOMMODATIONS:
Descending the companionway steps, the galley is to port and features a well-insulated 5-cubic foot ice box, a two burner Kenyon alcohol stove and a small, single sink serviced by both pressure and foot-operated freshwater pumps.
Aft to starboard is a large quarter berth.
Port and starboard settees in the saloon double as comfortable berths. A dining table folds down from the starboard bulkhead and has a leaf that extends to the port settee to allow seating for four.
Forward of the main saloon and to starboard is the head compartment with standing headroom, a manual Wilcox Crittenden toilet and a single sink. Opposite the head to port is a hanging locker.
A bifold door opens into a truly comfortable owner's cabin forward, with ample storage and a large v-berth.
Large hatches above both the forward and main cabins, plus four opening ports provide plenty of light and air below.
Engine access is excellent via two removable panels behind the companionway ladder.
