The Ingrid 38 from the pen of William Atkin is a heavy displacement blue water ketch derived from Colin Archer's famous double-ender designs, which in turn were inspired by Viking boats renowned for their heavy weather characteristics. Perhaps Atkin sums it up by saying it's "the kind of boat that behaves herself in rough water and can be depended upon to sail herself".
With her old world style she's a good looking boat with a sheer line. Her seaworthiness is there to see in her full keel, heavy displacement and overbuilt construction. Her hull is heavily hand laid in fiberglass, there's robust outboard chain-plates and an outboard rudder protected by extra fiberglass and a large bronze shoe casting should she scrub the bottom.
"Windrose" is a FACTORY FINISHED hull.
Windrose, is a William Atkins “Ingrid” design double-ender fiberglass ketch built by Blue Water Boats in Woodinville Wa. The hull and deck and partial interior were completed in 1979 as the 76th of about 143 built over about 12 years. It was delivered in 1979 as hull #BLW0000760677 to the original owner. The owner in conjunction with a Cabinet Shop (Bellingham, Wa) completed and fitted out the interior for launch in 1981 under the name Kingsblood, with a red hull. It was sailed under this name in the South and North Pacific by the original owner until 1985 when it was purchased in Hawaii by the Current owners. The starboard main cabin and galley was remodeled in 1985 to current configuration and she was given a navy blue hull and renamed Windrose.
