This 1974 Morgan Out Island 41, Kiera, is a wonderful example of a classic Morgan Center Cockpit. Her low profile and appointed bow and stern give the yacht an impeccable look from the dock. This yacht is structurally sound and has had a number of recent updates including a painted cockpit (June 2020), painted freeboard (December 2020), and a new electric stove top among other items! Deck and Hull
The deck and hull of Kiera is solid as it is capable. The nonskid is in above average condition for a forty-five-year-old yacht and all items aboard are functional. The yacht has been outfitted for an extended trip on the water and there are very few items, if any, needed upon the purchasing of this yacht.
The cockpit is both safe and comfortable. There is a large storage compartment to starboard and additional storage just below the helm seat. The engine panel and gauges were installed in the summer of 2020 by Legendary Yacht Services in League City, Texas. The cockpit hatches have a rugged composition and the overall feel is sure to provide the necessary accommodations offshore. Of note is a newly upgraded helm station and new Garmin GPSMap541s purchased and installed in the summer of 2019.
The VIP stateroom of this Out Island has a full-length bed to starboard with ample storage by the way of lockers and shelving throughout. The walls of the berth are covered with marine stained plywood and nicely complimented tile to port and starboard is just above the shelving. The ceiling is fiberglass and a nice trim surrounded deck hatch lets in plenty of light.
The forward locker aboard the cabin of this Morgan has been converted from a closet to a tool cabinet and pantry. The double sliding doors provide access to either side and also within the cabinet is shelving and panels at the base that can be removed with access to more storage. There are a plethora of spare parts available.
The forward head has an expansive feel with the manual Jabsco head perpendicular to the aft ward bulkhead complimented by wooden and fiberglass counter space behind and aside. Shelving and cabinetry fill the port side and teak grate flooring provides drainage for the day head’s shower.
The salon has a large feel between the raised wood parkay tile and u-shaped seating with shelving behind. The forward side of the u-shaped seating has two well-thought-out storage compartments by means of a cabinet, drawer, and five storage compartments that hold a long list of items just below the cushions. The design is pragmatic and between the shelving behind and handrails the use of this area is fitting while at sea.
Against the port side of the salon extending to the forward bulkhead, the galley has a fluidity to the yacht's accommodation that beautifully compliments the salon. Counter space and storage is abundant throughout. There is a large double stainless steel deep sink aft ward and as you work your way forward there's a newly installed Summit 110v electric stove top (September 2020), and microwave parallel to the forward bulkhead. Behind the counter space to port is sliding cabinetry and just above from port to and around the forward bulkhead is shelving with gorgeous teak trim railing. One port window surrounded by tile above the shelving to port allows for an abundance of natural light and there's a also a teak ceiling mounted wine glass holder.
The navigation station is just behind the galley to port. There is an abundance of counter space that is slightly tilted with with teak trim railing at its low point. An EdgeStar ice maker is built-in forward that is parallel to a wooden wood shuttered cabinet door and three drawers. Against the port wall there is a small area of flat carpeted counter space below a tile surrounded port window. The lowered ceiling is fiberglass complimented by an ICOM VHF, navigation lamp light, and aft ward mounted reading light.
The engine room can be accessed by the walkway from the salon to the master stateroom. Two hinged cabinet doors aft of the companionway stairs provide sufficient access to the Perkins 4-154 inboard direct drive diesel engine and the Onan 8kW diesel generator. Filters, plumbing, and wiring are all within arm's reach and this large engine room can be accessed and maintained easily and as needed. The 16,000 BTU AC unit and 6,000 BTU AC unit were serviced in July of 2020 by TNT Refrigeration in Kemah, Texas and are serviced twice a year by TNT Refrigeration in Kemah, Texas and the yacht received two new 4D house batteries in December of 2020.
The master stateroom is undoubtedly the apex of this yacht's offering. A queen bed stationed parallel to a beautifully decorated tile inlayed transom are just two of the many features. There is an abundance of storage with three lockers of different sizes, drawers, and storage compartments throughout. Access to the cockpit comes by the way of a companionway just past the entryway and a multitude of port lights keep the room well-lit.
The aft head nicely compliments the master stateroom with a manual Raritan toilet mounted to raised fiberglass on the head’s starboard side. The counter space is abundant and there is plenty of storage for items with three panel covered cabinets, sliding door cabinetry, and counter space above. The stainless steel sink resides below wood toiletry shelving mounted to the forward bulkhead under a mirror.
