"The Islander 37 Sloop is a proven winner. Designed for the traditional yachtsman who enjoys both the competition of racing and the great life of cruising" ~ Islander 37 Brochure
Mirage is the YachtCraft version of the Islander which means that the hull was sold to the original owner as a kit. In the case of Mirage, the original owner has been reported to have owned a shipyard and made significant improvements on the construction as well as did an exceptional job on fitting the boat out. This is a very nice cruising boat offered at a fantastic value.
The current owner purchased her in Dec. 2020 and has made many significant upgrades:
Mirage's "one piece fiberglass hull is all hand laminated to ensure maximum uniform strength. The SOLID CAST LEAD BALLAST IS GLASSED INSIDE THE KEEL AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE BOAT. Sandwich deck construction assures rigidity with minimum weight, while providing insulation. Bulkheads are floating, rather than structural, to prevent fatigue and stress points in the hull. Stainless steel chain plates are both thru bolted and glassed. Thru hull fittings are fitted bronze valves. Deck hardware if thru bolted" ~ Islander 37 Brochure
What makes Mirage different is the original owner went a step further by:
Mirage features painted decks with teak tow-rails port and starboard as well as a stainless steel bow pulpit and stern pushpit connected by over and under life lines running through chrome deck mounted stanchions with single safety line gates port and starboard. Moving forward:
Mirage is a well fitted classic yacht with a very practical sailboat layout that provides plenty of storage and ample creature comforts. As you descend the companionway there is the galley on port side:
The navigation-station is to starboard of the galley:
Forward is the saloon with port and starboard settees. Both settees are full length and can sleep an adult. The saloon table folds down from the forward bulked thus the saloon has an open layout when it is not in use. Other features include:
Just forward of the saloon are hanging lockers on starboard and the enclosed head on port:
Forward of the head is the V-berth. The entire cabin is finished off in teak. The joinery work shows an attention to detail that is not common on production boats.
