The ICE CAT 61 and 67 are developed through the collaboration between ICE YACHTS and the yacht Designer/Engineer Enrico Contreas, father of the legendary catamarans Mattia and one of the most experienced designers of catamarans.
Together ICE Yachts and Contreas began the design and development of a new generation of catamarans with the ICE CAT 61 and 67, a brand new multihull characterized by very pure and efficient lines. This represents a complete re-design of the legendary ” SBANDATO”, the Mattia 56 that amazed everyone for its' speed and manoeuvrability and established a reference for Cats of this size.
The lines are fashion forward with aft inclining bows. We believe that a boat which is a cruising boat, a very fast cruising boat at that, requires a convenient area in the bow for such menial but important tasks as recovering mooring lines from a buoy.
The bow is characterized by the “scimitar sword“ shape as found on the new ICE 33 and ICE 52.
This spacious deck is high over the water with large volume in the hulls for added buoyancy when driving down wind. The deck height results in a dry deck for comfort and safety and whose aspects have guided technicians at ICE Yachts in every stage of the project.
Now, with the possibility of building hulls in newer technologies and innovative materials including epoxy resin construction with hybrid glass/carbon fabrics has yielded light but strong hulls and interior furniture.
The weight reduction translates into better speeds and manoeuvrability without sacrificing the high quality of the modernly designed interior and have optimized spaces with attention to finishing detail.
The ICE CAT 61 and 67 interior and finishes construction details are the same level as all ICE Yachts; a level that you can’t find available in CAT boats currently sold in the market by mass production shipyards.
The Overall Length is 61' for the 61 and 67' for the 67 offering excellent performance and stability with generous volumes both internally and externally. The Beam is 24' 3" and with a max draft of 1' 4", the ICE CAT 61 and 67 easily enters ports and shallow bays without issue.
The cockpit, located on the same level as the saloon floor, offers a large area fully usable during the day, at night, at sea and at anchor in perfect continuity with the inner salon area.
The sail plan with an impressive carbon mast, the real driving force of the boat, is effective and easy to manage. The mainsheet and movement of the traveller can be automated with an electric motor, making it very simple to adjust the mainsail. The same is true for the self-tacking jib. The Gennaker is the only sail that requires manual management but is effected using an electric winch.
The anticipated Apparent Wind Angle is 30° because of the very clean water lines of the hulls, the finely tuned sail plan, and the efficiency of the appendages. The deck plan provides that the jib sheet slide along a recessed gunwale so there is ease of movement on deck.
Taking advantage of its size and its' power-to-weight ratio, the ICE CAT 61 and 67 are engineered to develop high apparent wind speeds and reaching abilities at high speeds that would be impossible for a cruising monohull to achieve.
The designed sailing speeds exceed 25 knots with a projected speed under power of 13.5 knots using two auxiliary engines of 80 hp each.
For enthusiasts there is consideration for a foiling upgrade, a FULL CARBON version in which under certain conditions you can literally fly over the water.
Among the options, there is consideration for a hybrid propulsion diesel/electric auxiliary power with a new patent pending solution. The innovation part of this system is that it can also be used in case of issues with the electronics.
The ICE CAT 61 and the ICE CAT 67 are the first in a family of ICE Yacht catamarans ranging from 51 to 69 feet which will be joined in the production lines with ICE Yachts monohulls from 33 to 100 feet. Currently, there are two ICE CAT 61's and 67's under construction at the ICE Production Facility.
