This Riviera 40 Convertible has long been a perfect size, layout for the crossover style of boating that is done here on the Pacific Coast and more specifically in the Southern California region. In a footprint that fits in many slips, moorings and style of how we use our boats, the Riviera 40 feels like a big boat in a modest size range.
Reel Sunrise is rigged West Coast style and very well equipped. From the cockpit decking, to bait systems, electronics and a variety of interior appointments, this boat is loaded. Featuring a Pacific Edge dual well cockpit bait system (and Offshore bow tank), cockpit engine controls and newer Simrad electronics (both on the bridge and in the cockpit) , the multiple stations allow fishability on the anchor, maneuvering around billfish and allowing the captain to be part of the action.
The Cummins 6CTA power maneuvers well around the dock with responsive controls, agile feel and mobility of a small boat while still providing reasonable fuel economy, performance and comfort of a larger vessel.
While fishing well is a plus, frequently in this region the necessity to double as a family boat is also a topic of conversation. The beauty of this boat is it is just as comfortable on the mooring or anchored up in a cove with the family. Turn the cockpit bait tank into the hors d'oeurve or cocktail table and we have the casual dining option or go inside when the wind picks up.
Entering in the salon there is a convertible port side settee with a pull out single berth. The dinette is to starboard and features a nicely finished table adding some warmth to the salon. The entertainment center is above when its time to watch a movie before bed.
Down a step into the mid level galley is one of the shining stars of the layout. We frequently have discussions of galley up vs galley down and mid level is the perfect compromise. Nobody is down in a hole preparing meals, and the galley does not take up precious salon space.
Forward facing windows in this boat also lend itself to the family boating as lots of natural light make the boat feel larger and more opened up. Down the companionway to starboard is a guest cabin featuring three generous bunks and a washer/dryer combo. The stateroom is comfortable and a great option for crew, guests, or kids. Forward is the master stateroom featuring an island queen, hanging lockers and drawer storage as well as an entertainment system with television. In the companionway to port is the head equipped with a vacuflush system and a stall shower.
