Motivated seller open to all reasonable offers! This is the original owner who still loves the boat and doesn't want to give it away, but is no longer sailing the vessel and would love to see her under the active command of a younger skipper.

Owner is willing to deliver the boat anywhere on the East coast at no additional cost under an acceptable offer agreement.

Convergence is still lovingly maintained by her original owner. She is hull #12 of less than 20 yachts built by Eric Woods and his sons (Migrator Yachts). Designer Bill Tripp gave her a lovely sheer and graceful overhangs. A centerboarder-draft is just 4′ 2″ board up, 8′ 10″ board down-she seems equally at home offshore and gunkholing. The BI 40 is a classic.

The yawl rig allows a variety of sail combinations, from jib and jigger when much of any mainsail would have you on your ear, to flying a mizzen staysail in lighter stuff. With sail area divided into three sails, no one is too large to making trimming a chore.

This is the perfect cruising boat for a couple. Top quality construction. Timeless lines and design.

Well equipped with a Spectrum watermaker, Espar heater, Glacier Bay refrigeration, electric windlass, max prop, Avon dinghy with 4 hp Evinrude outboard motor, and all new electronics for navigation in 2008.

Eric Woods and his wife Joan had been interested in having a BI 40 built for their own cruising pleasure. Metalmast (the company who owned the molds prior to Woods) declined to build the boat, but said they’d sell him the molds so he could do it himself. Accidentally and providentially, Woods found himself in 1985 completely retooling the molds and forming his own company for the dubious purpose of building a 1957-vintage yawl. He couldn't afford to build one for himself, so he and his sons started building them for other people until after 17 years he had saved enough money to build the last one for himself. The culmination of a dream and a life's work.

Convergence was built twice. The first time was in 1993 as hull #12. She ended up on the rocks in a hurricane and everything was destroyed except her balsa cored deck, the spars, and a few other miscellaneous items such as the galley sink and cabinet drawers. The hull was destroyed and Eric rebuilt Convergence in 1998 using just the deck, spars, lead, and a few other items from the 1993 boat. The boat was commissioned to be built by the current owner after having owned hull #5. He and Eric made many improvements and added many upgrades to Convergence which have withstood the test of time. Convergence and the boat Eric was building for himself were in the factory being built at the same time in 1998. Eric liked some of the ideas being implemented on Convergence so much that he added them to his own boat as well.

The full history of this beautiful Bill Tripp design is detailed in Dan Spurr's book, Heart of Glass: Fiberglass Boats and the Men Who Made Them.
