The Hylas 49, designed by Sparkman & Stephens, is regarded as one of the finest offshore sailing yachts available. As an evolution of the proven and successful Stevens 47, the 49 features an updated deck layout with an improved cockpit, a nicely integrated swim platform, and a more luxurious 3-cabin interior, featuring a brighter salon space and a centerline queen berth in the aft cabin. They are swift, solid and comfortable boats capable of going anywhere in safety and style. The long internally ballasted keel combined with a full skeg hung rudder provide the ideal configuration for blue water cruising. The rig is ICW capable, and the modest draft of 6' is suitable for Southern cruising and the Bahamas.
Pinnacle is an excellent example of this model. She is equipped for liveaboard cruising and has received exceptional care from her current owners of 17 years. Pinnacle has been in the Northeast since 2002 where she has been used seasonally and tucked away under cover each winter (with the exception of one trip to the Bahamas in 2011). Owners have decided it is time to downsize and have offered Pinnacle at a price rarely seen for this model. Come take a look.

From the original Hylas 49 Brochure:
THE TOP SAFETY FEATURES
1. The most important: THE HULL - A legendary and proven fast, seaworthy, seakindly hull - one of the strongest in the industry - far in excess of A.B.S. rules - hand laid up with 8 longitudinal stringers tied to each frame and bulkhead.
2. The long keel with low ballast provides stability (resistance to rolling) and produces a seakindly motion.
3. The distance between the rudder and the keel provides good directional stability (sea worthiness) and reduces the tendency to broach in heavy following seas.
4. The rudder post runs completely through the hull to the deck so it has full structural support and provides an easy mount for the emergency tiller.
5. The bottom of the keel is 6" below the bottom of the skeg for protection while grounding.
6. The rudder is skeg hung with the bottom of the skeg 2" below the bottom of the rudder.
7. All batteries are strapped and bolted down.
