S/V Passport is a Bianca 111 built in Denmark by the Bianca Yachts company in 1984. She was shipped to Detroit and has been a fresh water boat ever since. The Bianca 111 is an example of Scandinavian boat building at its finest. Designed by Jan Kjærulff and Paul Elvstrom (the famous Great Dane winning 4 Olympic Gold medals), she is a racer/cruiser that balances both very well.
Passport cruised extensively on Great Lakes. Most recently with a family of five comfortably and always with the utmost sense of safety and security. The Bianca 111 is exceptionally well-built and stable boat that handles weather with confidence and is also easily driven in the lightest of breezes. Passport has IRC, ORR, and PHRF ratings. She has twice placed first in section in the Lake Michigan SSYC Queens Cup.
The interior of Passport is immaculate Mahogany with reupholstered cushions in 2016. One notices immediately when below and underway in Passport, there are no creaks, groans, or squeaks often found on other boats. Starting in the bow, there is an ample v-berth with shelves, hanging lockers on either side, and a large hatch. Moving aft into the salon are the settees that are also single berths with a beautiful center table with leaves. Lockers with cane doors and shelving line the hull sides; there is 6’2” headroom. The galley features a single sink, fresh and seawater taps, expandable counter space, a very nice gimbaled 3 burner stove with oven, and an efficient refrigerator. The Navigation station is comfortable and forward facing with many upgrades including wiring, instrument sensors, PC with screen for navigation and entertainment, and Fusion stereo. The head has a new toilet, sink and shower combo faucet, and ample storage. The aft cabin is a comfortable queen size athwartship berth with shelving and hanging locker. There are opening and fixed hatched throughout letting in lots of fresh air and sun. There are no leaks.
Passport’s cockpit is comfortable and secure with new teak in 2019. The boat can easily be single or double handed with important controls within reach. All winches are beautiful stainless Andersen; two of which are new self-tailing in 2018. Most of the running rigging is new high-tech blends. On deck, the teak is beautiful and provides fantastic footing. There are no deck teak fasteners making for a sealed, dry, and worry free deck. All instrumentation is new B&G Triton with a Vulcan Chart Plotter. The autopilot is Alpha Spectra below deck. Overall maintenance has been meticulous with many recent upgrades. The hull and cabin top is polished and hand waxed annually. The bottom has been race faired and uses VC-17 bottom paint.
