Many consider the Cherubini 44 "White Hawk" to be the most beautiful fiberglass sailing yacht ever built in America.  The 34 owners who purchased a new Cherubini 44 could select several variations to her house and deck configuration; but for White Hawk, hull number 7, John Cherubini designed every line and curve himself, intending it to be the show boat of the line. It was very successful, attracting many orders, and successfully launching a new company. Her robust construction cannot be economically duplicated today. That and her outstanding sailing characteristics and beauty continue to draw admirers, especially after the current owner’s restoration.

Cherubini Yachts completed the extensive phase one of the restoration in 2004-2005, which helped re-establish the Cherubini’s boat building business. Zimmerman Marine, Mathews, Va., did phase two, installing a new electrical panel and system, stainless steel shaft, max-prop, cutlass bearing, and engine overhaul. Finally, Cherubini Yachts came back to do phase three, which Lee Cherubini personally supervised. It involved installation of a new 12,000 lb. lead Scheel keel cast by Mars Metal, a new solid fir bowsprit, a new stainless steel bow pulpit and teak covering for the cockpit deck.

The Cherubini 44 line is featured in all three of Ferenc Mate's books on "The World's Best Sailboats". "White Hawk" herself is pictured in Vol. one and regularly attracts magazine interest. Since the builder sold her in 1981, she has been sailing mostly protected waters, Long Island Sound and the Chesapeake Bay, with some East Coast cruising. The current and prior owner, both friends, lovingly cared for her with little expense spared and frequent indoor winter storage.

The Cherubini’s sailing performance is as legendary as her beauty. She moves along great in both light and heavy winds with the perfect balance of power and comfort, aided in her windward performance by her conversion from a centerboard to an exterior lead Sheel keel. She is easily handled by two to three people. (see you tube video: “Fair Winds, Following Sea”).

This is a unique opportunity to own a beautiful sailboat that is a classic of American boat building.
