The Thompson is a true Bluewater cruising trawler whose salty design and heavy duty construction originates in the demanding East Coast fishing fleet. In the 1970s, Thompson Industries of Titusville Florida was designing and building boats for the shrimping and fishing industry when the OPEC oil embargo drastically increased the demand for highly fuel efficient cruising trawlers. Building upon the legendary sea keeping abilities and rugged construction of their work boat, Thompson delivered only about one hundred 44' Thompson Trawlers between 1976 and 1979 and they are still in high demand today. The Thompson's hull is constructed of 1” thick solid fiberglass, enabling this Bluewater voyager to easily handle the Caribbean and points north. Equipped with twin 120 hp Ford Lehman diesels and 800 gallons of fuel, this true displacement hull trawler cruises effortlessly at 8 knots burning about 4 gallons of fuel per hour, giving it a range of well over 2000 miles.

The Thompson 44PH can be entered from the wide and secure side decks, through side entry doors located on both port and starboard sides. The lower pilot station, main salon, and galley are all located together on the center deck, featuring panoramic 360 degree visibility and great ventilation provided by 12 large windows that wrap the space. Aft and down is a large master stateroom with a walk-around queen berth. The stateroom has tremendous amounts of storage and an en-suite head with a separate shower. Forward, and down, the guest stateroom features a large V-berth with its own head and abundant storage. Below the salon is a massive engine room with over 5 feet of headroom, that is occupied by a pair of venerable 120 hp Ford Lehman diesels, an efficient diesel generator and enough space left over for 800 gallons of fuel and maybe a lounge chair or two. Back on deck you will be awed at the width and security of the all-weather wide side decks, which allow safe passage to the expansive sundeck and fly-bridge.
The Thompson is a wonderful boat with classic, striking, trawler lines and a rock solid hull. She came to us under her own power, a 130 mile trip. The delivery captain reported that the boat performed well and most systems were operational. However, the boat is not turnkey ready for extensive travel and will require mechanical and cosmetic attention.
