The original 12'4'' Petite Brise proved very popular but there were requests for a larger version. This led to the development of the equally pretty Petite Brise Modified Swampscott 16'. The bilges have been widened to give a wider waterline beam for stability. The extra width has been carried aft with a wider transom which has created room for an outboard mounted in a well. This particular boat has the Cat Ketch rig which is simple to use and efficient under sail. Built by the owner (a retired boat builder), to a very high standard, this pretty, traditional day-boat is now looking for a good home.
This boat is located at the owners home and viewing is by prior arrangement only. Please contact Maiden Marine on 015394 88050 to make an appointment.
The Petite Brise Modified Swampscott 16 is designed for home construction using stitched and taped seams with marine ply panels. The internal surfaces have been epoxied to provide a harder wearing finish. The twin masts are of Douglas Fir. The kick-up centre board and swing up rudder give a draft of 8" minimum and 3' 2" maximum so almost no waterway is out of reach.
Fitted with a Cat Ketch rig the freestanding twin masts are of Douglas Fir. The rig is very simple and quick to set up. The Cat Ketch rig was much favoured by working boatmen and fishermen of America's Eastern coast for many years until sail gave way to power. Both sails are self tacking which minimises the input needed by the crew while underway leaving hands free for other pursuits.
The Sails are by Kemp Sails and are said to be in "as new" condition.
