Sunbeam sailboats are very high quality yachts which have been built in Austria by the Schoechl family continuously since 1952. The company is now being run by the third generation of Sochoechls. Built to German Lloyds standards, featuring meticulous construction with innovative engineering; this is only the second boat that I have ever seen which incorporates a built in bulkhead mounted universal joint/thrust bearing which eliminates the wearing effects of thrust on the engine and does not require engine to propshaft alignment.
Sunbeams compare favorably with Halberg Rassy, Najad, Malo and Swan. UNSE DEERN (Our Girl) is an unusual Sunbeam in that she has NEVER had teak decks. The only teak is in the cockpit.
She is been owned by an engineer who has maintained the vessel to a very high standard. The boat was rewired in 2016 by an ABYC Certified electrical technician, at which time a B&G Zeus2 nine inch multi function display was installed in a pod at the helm, a new Standard Horizon GX 2200 Matrix VHF radio with AIS was installed, an Electromax 100A alternator and a separate Balmar voltage regulator along with many other electrical upgrades were also installed at that time. In 2015 the owner had a new Sunbrella dodger fabricated and installed and this past March he had the main-sail serviced and washed by Quantum sails in Annapolis.
UNSE DEERN is a fast, comfortable, cruiser built to withstand the rigors of the North Sea. A capable vessel for the ocean or Chesapeake Bay.
NOTE: There is a plaque on the boat indicating that it is a Sunbeam 36, however; all the documentation indicates that it is a Sunbeam 37.

The Schochl family began building wooden sailboats in in Austria in 1952. and in 1961 they became one of the first companies in the world to build yachts using fiberglass. Known as a high quality, low volume production builder, Sunbeam is well known and well respected in Europe and the boats are still being built by the Schochl family - (3rd generation) in a new production facility built in 2001.
The outstanding seaworthiness of the Sunbeam 37 results in excellent handling under sail and excellent ergonomics on deck. The responsive helm under power assists with docking enormously and the hull cuts through the sea with ease in rough water. The interior boasts the perfect combination of functionality and comfort. All woodwork below decks is made from Sapelli mahogany. The galley is extremely spacious as is the generous aft cabin.
With plenty of hatches and opening ports plus multiple fixed port there is more than adequate light and ventilation. On deck the ergonomics make for easy handling by one person. Come and see UNSER DERN to discover amazing comfort, utility, storage and luxury in the beautiful mahogany interior and the wonderful simplicity and usefulness of this beautiful center cockpit boat..
The navigation station, to port, is adjacent to the companionway steps and is equipped with a fixed chart table with folding top for storage underneath and instrument board with switch panel outboard (see photo)
The L-shaped galley to starboard has double stainless steel sinks, isolated icebox with Adler Barbour 12 volt refrigeration, gimballed three-burner stove with oven, crockery cupboard, cup holders and rubbish bin and lots of storage.
The head is situated to the rear of the chart table/navigation station and is equipped with an overhead hatch, an opening port, wash basin, mirrored medicine cabinet and Raritan marine toilet. All seacocks and valves are easily reached.
The size of the aft cabin is exemplary for this class of yacht. the passage aft contains a large wardrobe outboard and access to the engine compartment inboard under the cockpit.
The volume in the V-Berth forward is also appealing with, shelves above the berth and storage space below. The comfortable berth measures 6'.2" in length.
The passage forward to the V-berth has a large wardrobe to starboard and a small compartment to port with a sink in a long counter with a large mirrored medicine cabinet above it. The sink features a pull out telephone shower making that entire compartment a large stall shower and an excellent private area to apply makeup and get dressed.
The overall concept for the Sunbeam is a fast, seaworthy, easily single handed, comfortable, well-ventilated yacht.
