Sea Star is one of the most seaworthy trailer boats built on the West Coast. She is at home as its namesake islands and the Farallon 25 Whaleback looks like it belongs where the weather is bad but the fishing is best. Farallon Plastics, Ltd., her manufacturer, describes its product as “the hull with no bad habits” and “a hardcore fishing boat with amenities.” She is so sea-kindly that her type is used for patrol and rescue, as a research vessel, and as a commercial and sport fisher. She is built to workboat specifications with a hull thickness comparable to 50 foot commercial boats. She has a large, self bailing work deck. Her cabin layout is compact and functional with V-berth, chemical head. She is powered by a 350 ci, 280 HP, Chrysler Marine V8 inboard.
Sea Star is a terrific all-around utility boat good in any sea conditions, with a reputation for exceptional handling in large following seas, capable of carrying heavy loads and eager to show her seaworthiness, safety and fishability. She has never been used commercially. She is out of the water on a tandem trailer which is included in the sale.
There is considerable fishing/utility space in the cockpit thanks to her generous eight foot beam and large 117 sq ft self bailing work deck. She has a heavily padded seat and the hardtop with forward-slanting, “whaleback” windshield allowing for an additional 31 inches of overhead for mounting electronics ahead of the wheel station.
The cuddy cabin contains a V-berth and the filler converts the twin berths to a large 7 foot long double berth. A chemical head is underneath the V berth. In 1999 the boat had the engine completely rebuilt and since then has had 500 hours of operating time. She has four flush mount rod holders, dual batteries with TrueCharge battery charger, and shore power cord. Electronics include Ratheon radar, Apelco fish finder, VHG radio.
