LAKE FOREST, IL, October 10, 2002 - Today, boats.com, Inc. announced that it's YachtWorld.com (www.yachtworld.com) division has added an influential group of subscribers, the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) to provide their member marine surveyors with access, via a restricted website, to data from over 75,000 sold boat records, and growing daily, as reported by the YachtWorld.com member brokers.
The new website www.soldboats.com provides YachtWorld broker members and subscribing SAMS surveyors with the most comprehensive and reliable database available to research sold boat values and trends.
The President of SAMS, Ken Weinbrecht, when making the announcement said "The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors is very pleased to offer its 900 plus member's access to the YachtWorld sold boats database. Confirmed sold boat prices on a national basis are an excellent and welcome resource for our members when determining the basis for valuation of their clients' boat."
In welcoming the addition of SAMS to the subscriber base, Paul Rabe, president, chief operating officer and co-founder, boats.com, Inc said "The addition of SAMS as subscribers is further evidence that the YachtWorld sold boat pricing database is fulfilling industry needs. Their addition is another validation of our commitment to providing the leisure marine industry with reliable information on a national and international basis."
The news of the addition of SAMS as subscribers to the database and the information it contains was particularly pleasing to Northwest Yacht Brokers Association Survey Committee Chairman Richard Brown who said "The calculation of accurate market values on purchase surveys based on information available to the industry as a whole is another positive benefit we can add to those already in the minds of existing and potential boat owners."
Through boats.com and its affiliated Web sites www.boats.com and www.yachtworld.com, marine dealers, brokers and manufacturers are utilizing a new, international channel of operation and consumer interaction.
boats.com enhances the capabilities of the boating industry by offering dealers and OEMs a range of unique products, online and offline, which help sell, finance, insure and market all marine product lines. With an established network of industry alliances - including the exclusive endorsements from the industry's two leading associations, the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and the Marine Retailers Association of America (MRAA), boats.com provides an unmatched level of consumer access to information, boat listings, accessories and financial and insurance products for the marine industry.
YachtWorld.com was established in June 1995 to provide an advertising venue and MLS for yacht brokers. Today it has 1600 yacht broker members firms with 2500 offices and 5000 individual yacht brokers advertising over 55,000 current boats for sale valued at $15 billion, and viewed by over 1 million unique visitors a month. When a boat sells, the listing broker documents the sold price, removes the listing from public view, and moves it to www.soldboats.com where it can be password-accessed by YachtWorld.com member brokers and now, by subscribing NAMS and SAMS members.
The Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMS) was founded in 1987 with 50 charter members and the membership has grown to almost 1,000 today. SAMS is intended to be an organization of Accredited Marine Surveyors who have banded together to promote the good image and general well-being of their profession. SAMS accepts for members those professionals who have demonstrated the technical sills necessary to be accredited as a marine surveyor. Members are guided by a Code of Ethics and are encouraged to participate in other organizations relative to the marine field. SAMS recognizes the value of continuing education where at each national or regional meeting a program of instruction in varied subjects is offered.
